Mind & Emotional Wellbeing
What's happening inside you right now?
You don't have to solve everything at once. Start by understanding what you're feeling, what may be driving it, and what might help you through the next few minutes.
A Note from Mark
You don't have to believe everything your mind tells you.
One of the biggest things I had to learn was that feeling something strongly didn't automatically make it true. I could feel angry and still choose not to react. I could feel anxious without having to escape from it. I could feel ashamed without deciding I was a bad person. I could have a thought without acting on it.
That took time. For years, substances, gambling and other behaviours had become ways of changing how I felt. If I was uncomfortable, I wanted out of the feeling.
Recovery meant learning something completely different: How do I stay with myself when I'm uncomfortable? How do I understand what is happening instead of immediately trying to escape it? And most importantly: What can I actually do about it? That is what this section is for.
You don't have to control every feeling. You need to learn what to do when the feeling arrives. — Mark

The goal isn't to never feel bad again.
Anger will come. Anxiety will come. Sadness will come. Stress will come. There will be days when your head tells you stories that feel completely convincing. Recovery doesn't remove being human. What changes is what you do next.
Notice it. Name it. Slow it down. Understand what you need. And then choose your next move. You don't need to win the whole day right now. Sometimes you just need to get through the next ten minutes without making things worse.
Feelings are information. They don't have to become instructions. — Mark
